Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is the City of Los Angeles department that owns and operates Los Angeles International (LAX). LAX plays an integral role in helping to meet the Southern California regional demand for passenger, cargo, and general aviation service. LAX airport make a distinct contribution to the strength of the aviation system, as it provides a high level of safety, security, and service for their customers, communities, and stakeholders. In 2018, 87,534,384 passengers came through LAX Airport, making it the world’s fourth busiest and the United States. As the largest and busiest international airport on the U.S. West Coast, LAX is a major international gateway to the United States, and also serves a connection point for passengers traveling internationally.
The airport holds the record for the world’s busiest origin and destination airport, since relative to other airports, many more travelers begin or end their trips in Los Angeles than use it as a connection. It is also the only airport to rank among the top five U.S. airports for both passenger and cargo traffic.
LAX serves as a hub or focus city for more passenger airlines than any other airport in the United States.
The NEED
In order to better manage traffic at one of the world’s busiest airports, LAWA needed to implement a mobile solution to assist with operations, traffic management and relieve congestion. This mobile and web solution will allow airline crews, tour groups, shuttle bus operators, and dispatch operators to coordinate through a common mobile operating platform. It will also allow LAWA to stage buses outside the Central Terminal Area (CTA) until riders arrive at the pickup point, thereby reducing wait time in the CTA. LAWA was in need of critical information and data to help drive efficiency and relieve congestion.
